Phone Woes

One of my dear friends is in from out of town and I had the most amazing weekend  but I am going to write about that after she leaves.

Today, I am going to discuss how I am soooo done with cell phones. Mine, Leo's and Nico's.

I am done with my phone because it never works. The time I need it the most is when I am in Target, Meijer or the mall and I don't get service in any of those places. I need to be able to call and find out if I am getting the right things or if Gia is still asleep or if the kids need me. Nope...no service. I was in the city and couldn't get service in the middle of Grant Park. I am attached to my phone because I want my kids to be able to reach me if they need me. I want to be able to reach my kids or Leo if I need them. Whenever I forget my phone, I have visions of being stranded somewhere and not being able to get help. I haven't worn a watch since I got a phone so I use it to keep track of the time as well. I do enjoy texting because it is a way to have a quick conversation.

Leo's phone is useless because he only answers it when I don't really need him. When it is really important that I talk to him, his phone is dead or he doesn't hear it. The amount of sweat lost when I am in the middle of something where I absolutely need him to answer and he doesn't would be buckets (like when Att was pulling a fast one and charging me for a phone call to fix my computer or when I was calling to tell him Nico split his head open).


Nico's phone is the worst. He is tired of it and I am tired of it. When we were younger and we called a friend, there was no answering machine, no cell phones, no texting. If they weren't around, the phone rang and rang. These phones have become a source of stress and hurt among Nico and his friends. We give them these phones because we need to be able to reach them but are we even equipped with how to tell them to use them? (I could go into this more but I'll save that for another post called the "The Joys of Raising a Teenager".)

The second reason we are done with his phone is that someone that he doesn't know texted him a few x-rated texts. It amazes me that I monitor movies and music and what do you know? He gets texted filth that I had no control of it coming in. He was mortified and uncomfortable and embarrassed. It bothered him that some unknown person had his number. He texted her that she had the wrong person and she even gave the name of the person she was trying to text so she knew it was the wrong person. It didn't matter, she still texted him the vulgar texts. He walked in the door and handed me his phone and said, "I don't want it." I want to call the number and tell her to stop texting him but he is afraid for me to do it. I can block numbers on my phone but can't figure out how to on his phone. He has an iPhone. Any ideas?

I hate how dependant we have become on technology. It seems we can't live without it but living with it isn't that great either.
